involving Moments of the trim Bowl

February 4th, 2010 by judith6543

During the earlier days of the trim Bowl, the halftime shows that were features fair consisted of some marching bands of the local high schools or colleges. However, as the popularity of the elegant Bowl increased through the years, the potential of exposure has also increased. Because of this, well-liked singers and other musicians came to form at pre-game ceremonies and halftime shows. Sometimes, they would objective boom the U.S. National Anthem, which is the Star-Spangled Banner.

At the orderly Bowl XL, there were a couple of outstanding performances. Stevie Wonder, John anecdote and Joss Stone performed at the pre-game ceremony. Aaron Neville, Dr. John and Aretha Franklin sang the Star-Spangled Banner. And at the halftime reveal, the Rolling Stones gave an unforgettable performance.

Also a memorable performance was the performance of U2 in 2002. It was a special tribute to the 9/11 victims so as the band sang their second song, the names of the victims were scrolled on a gargantuan projection camouflage.

Another controversial halftime indicate was at the desirable Bowl XXXVIII. Justin Timberlake accidentally removed a fraction of what Janet Jackson was wearing, which exposed her lawful breast and showed her star shaped ring. They repeated that it was unbiased a “wardrobe malfunction”. That particular game was aired live on CBS and the halftime demonstrate was produced by MTV, which was a sister company of CBS under Viacom.

After that, pictures and videos of the incident swiftly circulated online. Due to the incident, NFL prohibited MTV from producing another halftime demonstrate. The FCC also tightened their controls regarding indecency and fined CBS for $225,000, including the other stations that were owned and operated by CBS. The following year, however, the halftime expose was totally uncontroversial, as Paul McCartney performed.

Perfect 50th Birthday Presents For The Sports Fan

February 4th, 2010 by judith6543

Autographed Memorabilia

Every sports nut loves getting a ball, card, or any item autographed by their favorite hero. Luckily these items are pretty easy to find on eBay or in hobby shops around the country. There are also websites that specialize in autographed memorabilia. The prices vary depending on the rarity and condition of the item but you should be able to find something to fit every budget.

Sports-Themed Gift Basket

Gift baskets aren’t just for women anymore! Men and ladies alike will enjoy a gift basket filled with items representing their favorite sport or game. One idea for a baseball basket could contain a baseball (autographed or not), a baseball coffee mug, a couple of favorite player’s baseball cards (rookie cards are usually the most wanted), and maybe a couple of tickets for a game in the future. You can substitute items for any sport, hunting, fishing or even games such as bridge. This custom and personal gift is guaranteed to be a big hit at any birthday bash!

Monogrammed Or Personalized Balls

Inexpensive yet very personal presents, monogrammed balls provide a sense of pride every time the birthday guy or gal plays their sport in the future. You can find companies online that are willing to put initials on just about any type of ball. Other sports-related items, such as bats, shoes, and gloves can also be monogrammed. Personalized sports items are imprinted with a logo or motto, something other than initials. It may be harder to find a company doing personalized than monogrammed but those golf balls with the “Chin Up!” motto on them are well worth it.

Sports Scene Shadowbox

Shadowboxes are customized similar to gift baskets. However, the items in the shadowbox remain in the shadowbox and are displayed usually on a wall or thin shelf. Most of the time when creating a shadowbox, miniature items are used to create a scene relating to the theme. For example, for a fishing shadowbox, you may have a little boat on a little imitation pond with a couple of people fishing as the imitation sun comes up in the background. Shadowboxes are mostly used to give the owner a sense of nostalgia or escape from reality.

These are just a few ways to celebrate the sport of choice with 50th birthday presents. With a little imagination and some research, there are endless options for the sports fan’s big day!

THE LIBRARIAN 2: RETURN TO KING SOLOMON’S MINES is the sequel to THE LIBRARIAN: QUEST FOR THE SPEAR (2004) and again features Noah Wyle as Flynn Carsen, the titular Librarian who, on the surface, toils in the New York Metropolitan Public Library but whose true purpose is to safeguard the ancient, historical (and often mystical) artifacts stored in a hidden section of the library - fabled artifacts such as the Holy Grail, the sword Excalibur, Pandora’s Box, Tesla’s Death Ray, Adam & Eve’s apple, etc. As a side job, Flynn also gets to unlock the world’s greatest mysteries. As he says in the movie, “You’d be surprised at what you can learn at the library.”

TNT debuted THE LIBRARIAN 2: RETURN TO KING SOLOMON’S MINES on Sunday, December 3, 2006 and, yes, I tuned in with my large order of pizza and Pepsi. The breezy movie tagline for this one is “New Continent. New Adventure. Still No Clue.” which is a strong hint to the viewer that it’s time yet again to indulge in esoteric, anthropological silliness. When Flynn Carsen first got the Librarian position, he was nerdy, clumsy, inept at physical activities, and not good with women. Now, after over a year of settling in…well, he’s still all of those. But, hey, at least he still lives with his mother (who just tried to set him up with a third cousin).

Here come the plot and the SPOILERS: the movie opens with an enigmatic scroll being mailed to Flynn, which sends him once more furiously scampering around the globe on a desperate quest, but not before Charlene, the librarian director, advises him: “Be safe. Don’t get killed. Save your receipts.” This time, Flynn must try to piece together clues to the location of the legendary King Solomon’s Mines. Of course, it can’t be as easy as it sounds. Our maladroit librarian must contend with a secret mason society, hungry hippos, a beautiful, competitive archaeologist, family secrets, and a corrupt warlord who really, really wants the treasures of King Solomon. Not to mention, he faces the possibility of having to consume termites. Working in a library has never been more perilous.

Noah Wyle remains endearing in his nebbish but, nevertheless, heroic lead role, while the straight-faced Bob Newhart (Judson), Jane Curtin (Charlene), and Olympia Dukakis (Margie Carsen, Flynn’s mom) adequately reprise their supporting roles. I do miss Sonya Walger, who played the sexy and uber-capable Nicole Noone, but lovely Gabrielle Anwar, here sporting a faux Brit accent and, in one sequence, a drool-enducing red outfit, ably steps in as brilliant archaeologist Emily Davenport, whose vaunted academic skills may surpass even that of Flynn’s (she has one more PhD than Flynn, which incenses Flynn). Now, can a dorky bookworm find love with an upper class, brainy beauty who’s so way above his league? With Wyle’s excellent, humorously combative rapport with Anwar, he’s got a chance.

Jonathan Frakes directs this one with a decidedly tongue-in-cheek aplomb. In channeling the Indiana Jones and the Mummy features, Frakes and the producers make no bones about their intention to craft a homage and transport the viewer to a simpler era when the cliffhanger adventure films of the ’30s and ’40s ran amok in cinema. True, like in the first movie, THE LIBRARIAN 2 does adopt a certain B-movie sensibility, with its requisite campiness. Frakes knows we’re not about to take this series too seriously; yet he manages to infuse enough humor, character development, storyline, high adventure, and fun facts within the film that I found myself being charmed and hugely diverted. Granted, the special effects range from decent to dubious and won’t even impress a 5 year old, but the acting performances, the fantastical premise, the old-school, globe-trotting derring-do, and the exotic locales will spark the viewer’s imagination and sense of adventure. It’s good, hokey fun, worth 3 and half stars. Can’t wait for the third film.

There are other reviews that are more indepth and serious.

This is an absolutely fun movie and we are hoping they come out with another one just like it. Noah Wiley does a great job playing a librarian who is slightly put off kilter because he is thrust into dangerous, scary and different situations.

The characters are as believable as they can be given the situation they are placed in (working in a library that collects historical artifacts that may or may not exist).

My children particularly liked the end where the directors and artists discussed how they did their work.

This is a fun fun movie. Well worth the money. Enjoy.

This is great. As a baby boomer I remember watching this every saturday morning along with The Lone Ranger, and Fury. Today’s jaded kids would find it a bore. It takes alot to stimulate today’s younger generation. But in a more inocent time (when going out for a hot dog or ice-cream was a big deal) Sky King was was up there as a top kids show. I plan on buying the whole series.

I’m editing my review. In my case, I’m an obsessive fan of these movies, and maybe nothing would’ve met my expectations. If you haven’t seen these films, buy this DVD IMMEDIATELY! You will not be sorry, and more than likely you’ll find my criticisms baseless and nit-picky.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring! Click Here

I wrote the original after skipping around the discs and being extremely disappointed by what I saw. Since then, I’ve sat down and watched both movies on this disc and my opinion has changed somewhat. The problem was my expectations, not the actual product.

On the whole, these films DO look fantastic when compared to every other DVD release available (MGM and the R2 Pathe discs from France). However, they don’t look nearly as good as I believe possible. I think this film deserves the royal treatment, an all new, high definition transfer by seriously skilled people.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring! Click Here

Unfortunately, while the resolution is good, it is anamorphic, and appears to be a straight NTSC transfer (and not a PAL-to-NTSC conversion as I previously thought), there is just something not right. The colors are way too hot when compared to the actual film, and there just seems to be a layer of fuzz or blur over the whole thing that is not present on the big screen.

I give it 5 stars because the films are fantastic. The two greatest foreign films I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched them each about 15 times, and never grow tired of them. I pretty much learned French watching these movies.

However, this DVD seriously lacks. This movie is in dire need of a new and improved subtitle translation. While the subtitles make sense on the whole, I’ve studied the French script, and there is a great deal missing in the translation.

There are no special features.

For YEARS, these films have been out of print in America, the originals going for upwards of $50 a piece on ebay. Clearly someone was paying attention and realized there’s enough people who enjoy this movie to make it available again. But slapping this set together, while allowing new viewers the opportunity to see the films, is an insult to fans who’ve waited a LOOOONG time for a proper American release. But a cheap release is better than none at all.

Caveat: Perhaps if enough people buy this DVD, MGM will wake up and release a proper special edition. For $14, it’s a great deal for two masterpieces, but we could’ve done better than this.

Two big steps forward, and one 1/2 step back. Contrary to the impression from the disc specs on the back of the jacket, the new MGM/Fox double feature disc DOES present the films 16:9 enhanced. They are also, surprisingly a big step up from the earlier R2 PAL discs , which for the longest time were the only way to satisfyingly watch these on a widescreen display or front projector.

Unfortunately they still aren’t a home run. The picture in general consistently looks a little too ‘hot’ - contrast is jacked up which blows out the details in the highlights in many shots- also there is an at times over bearing yellow tint to the image in the countryside exteriors. Some EE and ringing are also visible in a few shots. Fine detail on the other hand is much improved over the PAL disc and artifacts related to compression are a monumental improvment over the first MGM release.

These should have been color timed a bit cooler- but on the whole, this new release easily represents the most watchable versions of these two classics yet (at least, not counting the widescreen Image laserdisc set that is now long out of print).

Its a shame that this release is so close, and yet still misses the mark. At least this one will suffice for a few years until the film are (hopefully) properly presented on one or both of the High Def formats.

The films themselves get 5 stars easy- the new disc gets 3.5 for PQ and AQ.

This series is a very mixed bag. If you can handle the over the top vulgarity, obscenity, and gore there is actually a good story lying beneath it all. The story is both the best and worst part. See, it’s a great story, but the anime ruins it. The last disc is comprised entirely (save for the first episode on it) of non-manga made up story. It gives a very sloppy and absolutely ridiculous ending, and never ties a single thing up. This is a pretty series, it looks great, and is fun to watch, but it will leave you running for the manga.

The case itself is fairly nice. The top of the ball pops off to have this little fold out holder for the discs. No complaints here.

In closing, this is a fun anime if you don’t mind some very vulgar moments. If you like the story I recommend the manga so you can see what actually happens.

I give it:

Visuals: 5

Sound: 4 1/2

Story: 3 (needs the manga!)

Gantz is in imo the one the most realistic films/shows ever. It’s disturbingly acccurate in the way it portrays humans and the way they react in situations. Reminds me of the film the Mist, where the protagonists are battling aliens yet the real monsters seem to be the humans.Yes there are aliens(you will be surprised at the aliens)and very deep social morals in every episode. It has gore, profanity, and nudity too.But if you are mature and you love women, that shouldnt bother you or distract from the point of the series. Its a series in which the main characters have very real personalities and they grow as the series goes along because they have to make some strong decisions like taking lives to save lives.I really felt like I knew the protagonists more and more as the series progressed. Its too complex of a plot to describe more and I feel like that could cheat the viewer.Gantz is really just pure genius and might be the best anime ever. Its two seasons( 3rd season one day?), 26 episodes in an ultra cool black sphere(yes the dvds are safe from getting scratched),the english dubbing is the best Ive ever heard, great animation. This show will stay on your mind for sure whether you like it or not and may even make you value life more.Well worth your time and money.

You have to realize two things to enjoy this movie.
PG-13 films are typically not for children. Parents seem to think just because its animated means “hey take the kids.” Well how about we think a little BEFORE we go running to the theatre? Complains about that are just unfounded. The rating says it all, PAY ATTENTION.

The second thing you must realize is that this is an ADAM SANDLER movie, like his earlier films. Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, all crude and rude, get over it. That was his style and he brought it back to make one of the funniest adult animated movies ever. The jokes here are classic, from whiteys seizures to him doing the robot in the middle of a basketball game. His sister eleanor has the cutest voice which I’ve been imitating ever since I saw the movie. The townsfolk are a scream, with rob schneider as an asian waiter. and jon lovitz as a man with a hook for a hand. This is a very unconventional Hannukah movie for the holidays. Sure it’s gross, but if your offended than go rent the Ya Ya Sisterhood or some crap like that. This one is for the guys, not for parents or children. Next time read the rating before you complain. Don’t believe all the crap, this movie was HILARIOUS. If you like Kevin Smith movies or Adam sandler movies than see this and bust a gut laughing. (hopefully not literally)

I really enjoyed this movie. Unlike The Wedding Singer, the humor was a bit more locker room gross-out, but like the Wedding Singer, it was filled with sentiment and heart. An angry Scrooge-like Jewish man learns to grieve, let go, and love the holidays again. No, it’s not for small kids. That’s why it’s rated PG-13. Sandler shows tremendous talent and versatility as the voices of Davy, Eleanor and Whitey, the latter two being annoying elderly fraternal twins whom Davy grows to love despite their freakishness. Rob Schneider, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nieland add their talent, as well as cameos by Tyra Banks and rock singer Ann Wilson as Davy’s mom. Alison Krauss lends her sweetness as the singing voice of Jennifer, Davy’s childhood love, now a single mom. The music is the most outstanding part of this film. The lyrics are silly and goofy, but also clever, and the song structures are dynamic and hooky, and will stay with you afterward. If you go into this movie realizing it’s not a white-washed Disney flick for the kids, but it’s a funny, sometimes gross, but sensitive Christmas story that tackles somewhat-adult issues, like why some people hate the holidays, I think you’ll enjoy it almost as much as I did. It’s also loaded with special features that are worthwhile, too.

I was looking for a wireless sub to complement a 32″ Sony XBR LCD TV that has 5.1 surround bar and a small built-in subwoofer at the back on the LCD panel. Since this TV is in a bedroom I don’t have enough space to add external speakers or any other audio components, which is why I paid a premium to get the built-in 5.1.

When I saw this wireless sub at $208 on Amazon, it was worth trying so I ordered it and received it in less than a week. Took me 5 mins to plug in and VOW, what a difference it made! The wireless transmitter has Audio-L & R ports that are connected to the Audio out of my TV. It also has a LFE input to connect directly to the sub woofer output of an amp. I’m blown away by the quality of this product and the ease of use. Now I’m so used to this thing that if I turn it off, the built-in 5.1 TV speakers that used to sound pretty good, feel like tin-can speakers. I am extremely happy with this product (at this price point) and am thinking of adding another one to complement two 8″ ceiling speakers in my family room. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to add that extra touch of bass to an existing TV or iPod dock or any speakers that lack the bass. I hope the $208 price stays the same for a while or even drops further.

I needed a wireless sub because my components (receiver, dvr, and dvd player) are kept in a media closet off my living room. Running wires would have been painful. This was a great solution to complete my home theater.

I run rather small main speakers (Polk Audio RTi 4’s) in an average size room and like most people, I thought the bass was a little thin. Because my Onkyo TX 8511 does not have a dedicated subwoofer or center channel output, about the only solution was to hard wire a powered subwoofer to the amp’s speaker outputs then back out to the mains…until now. As the Tape 2 output on the TX 8511 is an unswitched line output, I merely attached a pair of Y-Cables to the Tape 2 output with one branch going to a Niles 3 deck Tape Deck Switch and the other to the transmitter for my Polk Audio PSWi 225 wireless subwoofer. Problem solved. Absolutely clean bass, no buzz, no interference with other wireless devices thanks to a 4 channel selector switch. Automatic signal sensing so there’s no need to shut the sub off when not using it. The sub has a 100w rms amp which is more than adequate for the room. I don’t know if this would be ok for really large rooms.

After having tried other air purifier models I have finally found something that helps with our allergies. It’s amazing to see how dirty the filter is when it is time to change the filters - kind of like when you empty a vacuum cleaner bag. It’s hard to believe there is so much stuff in the air. I have found it much easier to replace the filter every 6 months than having to clean a filter weekly. The unit is a bit loud on the highest fan speed setting and found it works best to run it on speed 3 or 4 before I go to sleep and then lower it to speed 1 or 2. On the lower fan speed settings it sounds more like white noise and after a couple days of running the unit I forgot it was on.

The room with this product in it gets cleaned periodically, and we noticed a significant reduction in the amount of dust on the furniture, so I would say this filter is working well. Online sites rate this Air Purifier as removing over 95% of air borne particles in a controlled situation, making it comparable to $600+ models, and far superior to the products you see on those info-mercials.

I would say this product is great, but you should do your own research.

I purchased the Alen A350 after a lot of research. Our bedroom is quite large but we keep the unit fairly close to the bed. We noticed the improvement immediately (we’ve had for approx 4 months now). The next to highest speed is what we prefer and it is not super quiet but, hey it’s a fan - what do you expect? When we want, we drop the fan speed down a notch and it is quiet. Very simple to operate right out of the box, and is effective. I recommend.

I highly recommend this netbook.

A key reason I bought a second S10 when I needed (OK, wanted) another netbook: I’ve dropped the first about a dozen times, knocking it off the armrest of an easy chair onto carpet, about 2.5 feet down, and the Lenovo has kept working all this time. (OK, I should be more careful with it, but its hardiness has actually enabled me.)

I bought the previous version of the Lenovo S10 as a stopgap; my full-size laptop caught a virus while I was away from home for weeks and I didn’t have time to clean it up. I ended up using the S10 a lot, and discovered that it did all the vanilla stuff I do most of the time. Then it caught a virus while I was away from home, and I was able to use the OneKey feature to wipe out everything back to factory settings. That worked great (as long as you’ve backed up your stuff before a virus).

The latest S10-2 has longer battery life, and is sleeker and more polished. Nice job on the update, Lenovo. (The S10-2 comes in pink, green, gray and black, which I chose.) I sure didn’t buy the first S10 for its boxy, utilitarian looks, so the redesign was a pleasant surprise.

Several netbooks including Acer, Asus, HP and etc were considered before buying the S10-2. I eliminated Acer and Asus due to the ‘cheap’ looking plastic quality of the device and lack of quality support. I ultimately decided on Lenovo S10-2 based on my past experience with the quality of IBM ThinkPad (since Lenovo is the old ThinkPad biz). Also, the support was great when I had a question regarding the product. Also, the OneKey Recovery is a great feature on this NetBook to “reset” without a CD or download.

Battery life is better than expected. Depending on use, I can go as long as 8 hour without recharging.

Overall, I would recommend this product to my friends and family.
